Oakville Muffling Motorcycles

"Oakville Muffling Motorcycles"
I believe, Belfountain was first in Ontario to introduce noise restrictions on motorcycles.

So, who's next?

Would you believe it's the Town of Oakville?

On Monday December 19, 2011 Town Council of Oakville voted to approve a bylaw seeking to muffle excessive motorcycle noise. Under the bylaw, a motorcycle cannot operate in Oakville if it exceeds sound beyond the threshold of 92dba while the motorcycle is idling and also if its driven and the noise level exceeds 96dba at 2,000 RPM.

This bylaw will come into effect July 1st, 2012.

Apparently, a call for the bylaw was initiated by residents near Tim Horton's at 49 Lakeshore Rd West where a group of motorcycles gather on a regular basis in the summer.

Individuals convicted of violating the Town's bylaw could face a minimum fine of $400 and a maximum fine of $25,000 for the first offence and the maximum fine for a subsequent offence is $50,000. OUCH!

Let's be careful out there!
